CPTC’s First Two Events Are A Huge Success!
By Scott Suhring
The Winter Wonderland brunch held at the Allenberry Resort and Playhouse drew 66 members and was a huge success. Although it was chilly outside, the warmth radiated from the good cheer and fellowship as members got caught up on everyone’s doings over the winter. Needless to say, the talk consisted of new purchases, winter projects and yes, the start of the driving season! John Krause,, VP, provided the group with the Club’s events schedule and an update on the health of the Club. All raved about the food this year and how the Resort really pulled out all the stops with the buffet. A big thanks to the board for a great event and for continuing to give of their time to support the operations of the club!

The other club event was the traditional “kick-off” Tech Session held at Steele Motors. Our host and instructor, Kelby Steele, cleaned up the lower bay so that his work bench could host the coffee and donuts to get the group of 22 members energized to learn some new information about keeping our Triumphs running this year. Kelby lead the group to his upper bays where he had a classroom setting with a TR4A engine all ready as an instructional prop. This year’s topic was Engine Tune-Up “that you can do yourself”. Kelby lead the group through compression tests, re-torqueing the head, valve setting and clearance checking, distributor static timing and adjustment, testing that the advance mechanism is working, and measuring the valve lift as a means to check for worn lobes. As always, Kelby gave live demonstrations of the various techniques to go over your engine to check its health and to be sure you are eking out every ounce of HP you should get. Passing around parts always is enjoyable, especially when they are parts that most members might not have a chance to handle (an example of worn lobes and pitted tappets). We ended the session with lunch, which did not stop the discussion of getting our TRs back on the road (BTW, we had 6 Triumphs parked out front). Thanks to Bob Iwan for supplying the food and Kelby for his hospitality in taking us through another Tech Session that I can safely say had a bit of something for everyone!
